Damnnnnn Ky [& Asia] back it again with the #PodcastPicks! These podcast recos are serious business. I find myself staying up til 2am listening to podcasts now and have even listened during my nephew’s weekend track meets. If you haven’t already, check out Week #1 and Week #2.
Hey! I’m Asia. A digital creative, Creator of EmpireLifeMag.Com and self-proclaimed podcastaholic. I’m pretty sure I listen to podcasts more than I listen to music these days. A great way to breeze through the work day, workouts, long drives… podcasts are my go-to for pop culture tea, tough love talks and motivational mantras.
Each Friday in February, I’ll be sharing my podcast faves (there’s a LOT) and why I suggest you give them a listen.
This week, it’s for the listen. These are my go-tos when I feel like investigating, learning more and feeling empowered. Check them out below.
This podcast came on the scene in 2014 and took the entire world by storm. I strongly urge you to listen to season one, the story of Adnan Syed, a then high-school student charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend in 1999. The narrator Sarah Koenig dives deep into the case and uncovers some extremely intriguing stuff. I was so interested in the investigation, that I searched for additional information on Google and listened to supplemental podcasts that continued to follow the story. You can give season two a listen if you’d like, but I’ll be honest, I didn’t get past the first couple minutes of episode one.
If you like to hear about current issues, this podcast is for you. If you like to hear life stories, this podcast is for you. If you like to hear about the American experience as a whole, this podcast is for you. NPR and their producers do a fantastic job with creating compelling stories in refreshing ways. And trust, that man that’s in office right now is providing a lot of subject matter to discuss.
Oprah is the blueprint in my eyes so of course when I found out there was a podcast focused on the inception of The Oprah Show and what has happened behind the scenes throughout those history making years, I was all in. The fact that Oprah herself was interviewed and gave her own insights about it all was amazing. Hear from her producers and a handful of other people who made The Oprah Show what it was.
I’ll be back for my last installment next week which will be for the launch. Until next time…
