Let’s Face It: The Best Moisturizer for Combination Skin

I have a love-hate relationship with my skin. Outside of hormonal breakouts or the occasional pimple, my skin stays acne-free for the most part, which I love! What I hate… my combination skin having it looked like I moisturized with cooking oil by mid-day, particularly my T-Zone. It’s not attractive and super annoying to have to constantly wipe my face throughout the day in attempts to not look so shiny and oily.

What skin type are you?

When it comes to face care, I am a product junkie. I try all types of cleansers and face masks. I am an avid Sephora ‘can I get a sample of this, this, and this’ shopper. Also being an avid shopper of Trader Joe’s, I found myself falling in love with their facial cleanser and moisturizer. Except, their Nourish Antioxidant Facial Moisturizer isn’t combination skin friendly. At least for me.

With a 20% ULTA coupon, I was determined to find a moisturizer that worked well for my skin. Before I went throw it in the cart crazy online, I did some research and came across this Buzzfeed article where they polled the best moisturizers to control oily skin. After looking up reviews for nearly all 17 suggestions I settled on GARNIER SkinActive Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Cream.

THE REVIEW

My usual face care routine consists of washing my face with Trader Joe’s All-In-One Facial Cleanser, applying Target brand acne cream to any breakout spots and then applying moisturizer. I also toss in a facial mask or scrub on a weekly basis. I’ve gotten away from using facial cloths to wash my face and typically either opt to just use my hands, an exfoliating glove or Olay ProX facial cleansing brush.

I purchased GARNIER about a month ago and immediately added it to my routine in place of Trader Joe’s moisturizer. Let me tell you…. INSTANT RESULTS! My T-zone is no longer oily and I don’t feel like my face is dry and dull in other areas. During my research I found that gel-based moisturizers are typically the best way to go for most skin types as they provide hydration to the skin and won’t clog your pores.

I will say, when I first opened the packaging I was looking at it like ‘this is a little ass jar!’ However, trying the product out, you don’t need to use a ton. A simple dab of your finger is good enough to cover your whole face. I probably won’t need to buy anymore for another 6 months or so. Below you can see the consistency of the product on your skin.
